Djerba
Djerba Island holidays cater to vacationers looking for high end resort hotels and quiet beaches where they can sunbathe, relax, swim, and snorkel. This big island is completely flat, with no hills, vales, or even sand dunes. It is located off the south-eastern coast of Tunisia and has its own airport. Visitors can bask in warm waters and enjoy miles of sand that looks like gold dust. Each hotel has its own private beach, ensuring peace and quiet.
Upscale Hotel Resorts
The hotels are all up-market and located on the northern and eastern parts of the island. They have an excellent reputation for providing first class service and all the modern facilities associated with five star hotels like comfortable bedrooms, classy restaurants and live musical entertainment. Entertainment in these mini resorts includes golfing, horse riding, sailing, and windsurfing.
Village Life
Apart from the hotels, the golden beaches, and the blue waters, tourists can also enjoy the unusual island by bicycle. A bicycle tour will reveal the other side of Djerba Island—small villages like Ajim and Guellala which consist of tiny mosques, courtyards decked with flowers, and whitewashed, square homes. The flora in this region is lush. There are thousands of palm trees, as well as olive groves and fields of pomegranates, mandarins, lemons, figs, and apricots.
Shopping
Visitors can shop for local ware in the small markets in Houmt Souk, the capital, and Midoun. Here they can buy pottery, leather, jewelry, and copperware items. There are also simple restaurants to enjoy the local cuisine.
Sightseeing
There are a number of sightseeing attractions like the Ghriba synagogue, the Djerba mosque, ancient fortresses, and Roman ruins.
Travel to Mainland Tunisia
Although visiting the island creates an oasis from the modern world, tourists can also visit the Tunisian mainland. Regular ferries and a long causeway connect the island to the mainland.
