Cayo Coco
The island of Cayo Coco is located in Central Cuba and famous for its holiday resorts. Part of an island chain, Cayo Coco, or Coco Key, has a 27 km artificial channel which connects it to the mainland. Families and water enthusiasts alike head to Cayo Coco for spectacular beaches, wildlife and some of the best snorkeling in all of Cuba.
Snorkel with the Fishes
The second largest barrier reef in the world is located on Cayo Coco. Join a snorkeling excursion where knowledgeable guides introduce guests to tropical fish, various types of coral and exotic underwater plants along a coral reef that is more than 10 km long. Snorkel in the warm, turquoise, waters of the Atlantic and see Bandtail Puffers, Longspine Squirrelfish, Redfin Parrotfish and many more fascinating species such as dolphins. Scuba diving excursions are also available for those inclined and might bring forth sharks and barracudas as well. For visitors who prefer water activities that take place on top of the water there is catamaran rides as well as sea kayaking.
Speedboat Through the Mangrove Swamps
Visitors get to drive their own speedboat through the islands mangrove swamps. Slow down and enjoy wildlife such as the pink flamingo; Cayo Coco has one of the world’s largest pink flamingo flocks, approximately 30,000 birds. Other birds that can be seen include pelicans, herons, cormorants and several species of ducks.
Nightlife in Cayo Coco
Nighttime in Cayo Coco means sunset walks on long stretches of white-sand beaches, Cuban, international and seafood dinners in one of the island’s hotel or beachside restaurants and maybe a stop at a bar or nightclub. The island also has some discos for the dance lovers out there.
Windsurfing, waterskiing, shark-watching tours and exploring the Bagá Nature Park are just a few more of the attractions waiting in Cayo Coco.
