Varadero
Varadero, located on the narrow Hicacos Peninsula, is known for its beaches. It is only 134 kilometers from Havana down a scenic highway. This is the perfect location to enjoy the sea and nature.
Water sports
Water sports are popular here with good dive spots, deep-sea fishing and boating. For even more adventure try parachuting over the area with a guide from the International Parachuting Center. There are three marinas where you can take a scuba diving or snorkeling trip. And play a round of golf at the Vardero Golf Club.
Hicacos Point Natural Park
Hicacos Point Natural Park is nearby and is a woodland and coastal preserve protecting the flora and fauna of the peninsula. There are several sites in the park that are worthy of a visit. Don’t miss the 600 year old El Patriarca cactus. Ambrosio's Cave is the site of 72 cave drawings by the native Indians of the regions. This 250 meter long cave with five galleries , was also a refuge for runaway slaves. Mangón Lake is a refuge for dozens of species of birds and over 20 reptile species. La Calavera (Skull) Salt Works was used to supply salt to the Spanish throughout the New World.
Other Natural Attractions
Tour Bellamar Cave’s three kilometers of limestone marine terraces including 17 galleries and 6 halls. Swim with the dolphins or see their show at the Dolphin Aquarium. See Josone Park, on the shores of a lake, from a horse-drawn carriage, by bike, or on foot. Four restaurants feature Cuban and international cuisine and seafood. Swim in the pool or at the beach.
Art
Visit the art gallery to see paintings, sculptures, fabrics, and photography by local artists. The artistic ceramics workshop is the place to find high-quality ceramics.
