The wide beaches with impressive sand dunes and clear shallow water are one of the main attractions of Maspalomas. An all year climate lets beach lovers and families come here to relax anytime. There are beaches for nudists and some that are a favorite of gay travelers.

The resort area has chic hotels and upscale holidays homes is next to the national park with its sand dunes that are home to rare plants and small wildlife. The park is closed to vehicles so cross by foot or take a camel ride across the park.

Visit the Faro del Maspalomas, a 19th century lighthouse. Near the lighthouse is El Oasis with grand hotels. In the area is a bird sanctuary in the sea water lagoon that provides a resting place for birds on their way to Africa.

For some dry land fun try Holiday World. Over a dozen rides including roller coasters and a ferris wheel make for a thrilling day. For kids they have a ghost train, carousel and pony rides.

For a natural experience visit Palmitos Park. Meet the dolphins. Parrots, birds of prey and other exotic birds are featured in this park. See the colorful tropical fish in the Pacific reek and tropical river. Get a look at the alligators in the Caiman Lake.

The Mundo Aborigen in a national park is a place devoted to the history and culture of the natives of the area. Figures of aborigines are places in settings to depict the dwelling, burial rites, and agriculture of these people. A small museum houses some of the archeological treasures.
