Gouves, Crete is a nice place to visit and see while on the island of Crete. It is not a traditional town or village but an area made up of several small villages. The lower area is home to the popular resort area called Kato Gouves and the upper area is Pano Gouves which consists of a traditional Crete village built on the side of Mt. Ederi. Mt. Ederi has one of the most breathtaking views of the ocean and land in the area, a drive to the top is recommended for all who are visiting. The shores along Gouves are a beautiful mix of rocky, pebble interlaced with beautiful sandy beaches perfect for sunbathing. Because of the popularity of these beaches you need to get there early to get a chair and umbrella.
Gouves has three water parks and plenty of water sports such as, riding the banana boat, canoeing, water skiing, and paragliding. With everything in walking distance take a stroll down one of the finest sea-side promenades on the island. Stop in for a service to watch a wedding in the beautiful sea-side churches of Saints Constantine and Helen. Visit the famous Crete Aquarium for views of the many wonderful marine life that calls the Mediterranean Sea and the other oceans of the world home. If you are up for a short drive, go to Heraklion to see the Historical Museum of Crete, the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, and Knosses, the great Minoan Palace. Bring the children or come by yourself, Gouves, Crete has something to keep everyone, large or small, happy and entertained.
