The known history of Kos Town begins in 366 B.C. Kos Town was a massive, ancient market place where Europeans traded goods with the nearby Turks and other eastern countries. A visit to Kos Town would be excellent for youthful visitors who would enjoy relaxing on a white sand, sunny beach by day and enjoy the massive amount of bars and clubs by night.
The Beach
White sand, black pebble, surrounded by tourist attractions or quietly surrounded by ancient rock formations or stunning cliffs, the beaches in and around Kos Town are abundant and come in all shapes and sizes. The area is a tourist haven so water sport equipment is readily available for rental. The port at Kos Town offers departures for several other Greek islands as well as the mainland of Turkey for anyone looking to explore the region.
Things to See
The medieval Castle of Neratzia on the harbor is likely the first thing you'll see as you ferry into Kos Town. The ruins of Asklepieion offer visitors a chance to travel back in time with preserved pieces of an ancient Greek city. No trip to Kos Town is complete without visiting the plane tree of Hippocrates in the city center. Legend tells us that Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, taught his principals under the tree. Medical practitioners and students should also not miss the Hippocratic Museum.
Bar Street
An unnamed street near Hippocrates Tree Square is affectionately referred to as "Bar Street." A series of European-styled bars, dance clubs and pubs line the street. Each night, the street becomes the epicenter of nightlife for tourists. Most of the clubs stay open through daybreak.
