Albufeira
Albufeira, a former fishing village, is now an artists’ haven and a destination for beach lovers. This cliff side village has turned into a resort town since the 1960’s when it was discovered by British travelers.
Beaches
Falesia, Olhos d'Agua, and Praia da Oura beaches are nearest Albufeira and therefore the most crowded. More peaceful beaches can be found a couple of miles west; São Rafael and Praia ad Gale. In the other direction try the beach at Olmos d'Agua.
Water and Nature Park
Zoo marine is a great place to cool off. This water park features pools, slides and rides. They also have special habitats for sea lions, dolphins, birds, and an aquarium complete with sharks.
Golf
Enjoy a game of golf at the acclaimed Pinhal do Concelho (Pine cliffs) course. This nine hole course is set among ochre cliffs and bordered by sandy beaches. The course about 3 miles from Albufeira and charges reasonable greens fees.
Shopping
For souvenirs or sun tanning lotion go to one of the kiosks along the seafront. Rua do 5 de Outubro and Praça Duarte de Pacheco are the main shopping streets. The Modelo Shopping Center is north of town and is the largest shopping area. In the small shops you can find ceramics, baskets and woodcarvings. For a modern shopping experience try the Algarve Shopping is in the nearby town of Guia. You can take in a movie or have dinner there as well.
Nightlife
Local bars and taverns are tucked away in this town. Find your favorite and don’t be shy about getting up to dance with the locals.
