Hisaronu

The picturesque village of Hisaronu is one of a number of Turkish towns on the "Turquoise Coast" that are making the transition from market town to affordable holiday escape for UK tourists. The climate is breezy, dry, and sunny, which makes it enjoyable for every sort of activity.

Since it is situated between the hills and the beach, Hisaronu offers a little for everyone. Typical beach fare is snorkeling, water sports, sunbathing, and a beautiful lagoon that is great for swimming. Olu Deniz is the nearest beach, and is easily accessed by buses. There are numerous boat excursions for those who want to explore rich blue waters of the nearby coastal region.

If the beach isn't your thing, inland, hill-oriented activities include hiking, mountain bike riding, and horseback riding.

In the unlikely event that you don't feel like doing any of that stuff, the town itself is quiet lovely. At every turn you will find quaint streets and squares that make for easy and enjoyable walking. Naturally, Hisaronu has great local and international cuisine. Shopping in town is like most places in Turkey: exciting, fast paced and loaded with deals. Don't forget to haggle; they won't be insulted since it's a part of the culture.

If you're looking for what the culture has to offer, there is plentiful evidence of Lycian, Persian, Greek and Roman culture both in the hills and along the coast. The famous trade town of Ephesus contains some of the best ruins of the ancient world.
