Marmaris

Located in the Muğla Province of Turkey, where the Mediterranean meets the Aegean, is the port city of Marmaris. Known for diving, sailing and ferry rides to the island of Rhodes, Marmaris is a prime destination for holiday goers, honeymooners and just about anyone with a sense of adventure. Invaded by Alexander the Great sometime in the mid 300’s BC, Marmaris today is a part of the Turkish Riviera and famous for its beauty.

Diving, Turkish Style
There are many diving excursions to be found on the Bay of Marmaris. Diving packages can be found for the islands of Yildiz Ada and Keci Ada where marine life includes octopuses, bream, groupers and jacks. Baca Magara is one of the many underwater caves located near Yildiz Ada. Or visit an 800-year-old Ottoman shipwreck off the island of Bedir Ada. See 400-year-old anchors, spectacular rock formations and ancient amphora fields.

Sailing in Marmaris
This port city has many charter companies and private people who take people out in yachts, sailing boats, fishing boats and catamarans, to name a few. Spend the day on the water with activities like fishing, snorkeling, swimming and seeing caves. Some more boating excursions include night tours with dinner, overnight excursions and river tours.

The Greek Island of Rhodes
The Old Town of Rhodes is a World Heritage Site and was home to the Colossus of Rhodes which, until destroyed, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Inhabited since the Neolithic period, around 9500 BC, Rhodes is now a popular tourist destination and only a ferry ride from Marmaris. See the Acropolis of Rhodes, the ruins of Kameiros and the Temple of Apollo.

More attractions not to miss include the mud baths of Dalyan, the hot springs of Pammukale and Turkish entertainment like Belly Dancing.
